Have you ever thought about eternity?
When I was younger it was a trip to stand in front of a mirror with another hand held mirror in front of me and look over my shoulder to see my reflection - over and over and over again. It seemed that I was looking into eternity or infinity or whatever you want to call it.
There is something in us, as humans, that compels us to consider eternity and the after-this-life. Will our lifetimes just end and then nothingness? Will we keep returning to this familiar orb as other creatures or people? Is there purpose for our being alive now?
As the experts gain more understanding of science and nature, many of them are concluding that there is an order and a plan that is beyond our understanding. These experts, when faced with the incomprehensible concepts and mysteries found in this universe, have concluded that a supreme being has orchestrated this world’s beginning and our existence. Someone smarter and stronger and more complex and more capable than us has planned this universe into being and is holding it together for whatever plan He has for it all.
Eternity is that state of being where time does not exist-no beginning or end. No person on this earth has ever existed outside of time. We all have a birth date and an end date. Only someone outside of the parameters of time could exist eternally throughout all the generations of people who have inhabited the earth, and be able to hold it all together.
I know of One who claims to exist eternally. He spoke to a man from a burning bush and never consumed the bush. He exists without eating or consuming or using up anyone or anything. He is eternal and the great I AM (according to Exodus 3:14).
Consider what the Holy Bible has to say about the eternal God in 1 Timothy 1:15-17 NIV
“Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.”
