You are Loved

As I held my new grandson I was amazed at the miracle of birth.  How this tiny human could be carried in my daughter’s womb, and then not be in there, and then, now, in my arms. I already loved him, and he wasn’t even named yet.

Thinking about his helplessness and vulnerability got me thinking about my own.  How much a little one depends on others to provide.  He’ll need to be fed, clothed, changed, carried, rocked and cuddled by his parents.  They will do it all because they love him.  Aren’t we as innocent and helpless and in need of a loving Father to care for us?

Just as my grandson was loved by our family without any action on his part to earn it, so there is a heavenly Father who loves us from before we were even born, without any performance on our part to earn it.  He created us and He chose to love us and there is nothing we can do or not do that will ever change His love for us.

Shakespeare reflected on love in his Sonnet 116:

“Let me not to the marriage of true minds

Admit impediments; love is not love

Which alters when it alteration finds,

Or bends with the remover to remove.

O no, it is an ever-fixèd mark

That looks on tempests and is never shaken;

It is the star to every wand'ring bark

Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.

Love's not time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks

Within his bending sickle's compass come.

Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,

But bears it out even to the edge of doom:

If this be error and upon me proved,

I never writ, nor no man ever loved.”

He seems to be writing about marital love, but I wonder if he had this scripture in mind as he penned his sonnet.

Romans 8:38-39 NIV

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,  neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

You and I can be sure and fully persuaded, so that with unchanging confidence we can declare, “Nothing separates me from God’s love!”  Let’s live loved by Jesus and allow it to change us from the inside out.Powered by Squarespace
